A little about my dad……Mario. My dad was born in 1925. He was married to my mother for almost 60 years. They had three children and 19 grandchildren. My dad opened M&R Car Wash in 1965. It quickly became his home away from home. Although he worked full time for Sunset Scavenger, as a garbage man, he was never too tired to spend several more additional hours each day tending to the daily operations of the car wash. When he retired from the Scavenger one would think he would enjoy his retirement years and relax and possibly travel a bit – that was not the case with my Dad. He filled his hours each and every day doing odds and ends around the car wash. Honestly, he could spend all day there if we let him. Growing up, I quickly learned that vacations were just not in my dad’s vocabulary – it was all about the car wash. My dad was a man of very few words and yet so many people loved and respected him. He enjoyed his customers and the special conversations he would have with them. Upon my dad’s passing I was grateful to be in the position to continue running the car wash. I quickly learned the reasons my dad spent so much time there. It definitely requires constant attention. It brings me great joy to hear stories from customers about my dad that they have held close throughout the years. It is wonderful to learn that some customers were just children when they would go to the car wash with their parents and now they are bringing their own kids to M&R.
I also laugh when I hear customers tell me how fond of “duct tape” my dad was.
Apparently, that was my dad’s “fix-it” for everything!!
It is an honor to continue operating the business that my dad held so close to his heart. I know he is smiling down upon us and is enjoying watching his “home away from home” from above.
It is with a heartfelt THANK YOU that I give to all of the dedicated and longtime customers that M&R has. Also, to the many new customers we meet on a daily basis.....Thank You! Without each and every one of you, my dad’s dream could not continue. To my family and those close to my heart I THANK YOU for helping me daily in the operations and maintenance of the car wash. Without you I could not continue my dad’s joy and legacy.
